I can understand Americans don’t want war with Russia and they don’t want American troops in combat. I certainly feel that way, and there are other paths open to combat Putin.
But what I cannot understand are those Americans who cheer on Putin and think we should be backing his invasion. (This mean you, Tucker Carlson, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, Ron Johnson, and the rest of the pro-Putin Caucus.) Even if they truly believe that Russia’s invading a pro-American neighboring sovereign nation does not upset the world order, and don’t see it places pressures on Europe that surely will affect us, it still doesn’t explain why any American would side with Vladimir Putin over the free people of Ukraine. Are they incapable of opposing American troops in combat while at the same time opposing a brutal act of naked aggression for no justifiable purpose under the sun? Can they walk and chew gum at the same time? Must they repeat every bit of treasonous gibberish uttered by our disgraced and defeated former President and Putin-puppet, or are they independently stupid?
One positive sign that some pro-Putinists are realizing the American people are not in line with their thinking: two days after Sen. Ted Cruz was recorded blaming President Biden for the invasion, he claimed such reports were “fake news,” refused to discuss it or anything about Ukraine for that matter. He just won’t discuss the subject. It seemed obvious he was torn between alienating the American people, whose sympathies are with the people of Ukraine, or angering Donald Trump, who when Putin says “jump” asks “how high?” Even a spineless coward like Cancun Cruz can read the tea leaves in the bright light of day. And any time Ted Cruz shuts up is a good day for America
